How to install and edit a MOGRT in Premiere Pro

By Spencer Tetik.

A .mogrt file is a Motion Graphics template: a graphic built in After Effects, packaged so you can edit it inside Premiere Pro without opening After Effects. You do not need After Effects installed to use one.

Install the template

  1. Unzip the download. The file you need ends in .mogrt.
  2. In Premiere Pro, open the Graphics and Titles menu (called Graphics in older versions) and choose Install Motion Graphics Template.
  3. Select the .mogrt file. Premiere copies it into your local templates folder, so you only do this once per template.

Find it and add it to the timeline

Open the templates browser: the Browse tab of the Essential Graphics panel, or the Graphics Templates panel in recent versions. Search for the template name, then drag it onto a track above your footage.

Edit text, colors and timing

Select the clip on the timeline. Its controls appear in the Essential Graphics panel's Edit tab (or the Properties panel in recent versions). Type your text, pick colors, and adjust position and scale there. LaunchFrame templates resize their panels to fit whatever you type.

To change how long the graphic stays up, trim the clip. The animation eases in at the start and out at the end on its own, so any length works. Keep clips at least a couple of seconds longer than the animation length setting so the graphic has time to hold.

If something looks wrong

Missing font warning: install the font named in the warning, or pick another font in the template controls. Playback stutters: set the timeline's playback resolution to half, or render previews (Sequence menu, Render In to Out). Template not showing in the browser: check you are looking at Local Templates rather than Adobe Stock results.
